Australia Abandoned “Three-Strikes” Regime

After the rights owners and Internet service providers failed to reach agreement on who will pay for the “three-strikes” anti-piracy scheme, the approach itself has been abandoned. This is confirmed by copyright owners and the Communications Alliance in a letter to the Australian Media and Communications Authority.

Australia has been considered a breeding ground for online piracy due to high prices, dearth of choice and legal products arriving much later than their debut elsewhere. All of this forced millions of Aussies to turn to unofficial sources.

As a result, copyright owners all over the world have been claiming that the Australian industry was hemorrhaging millions due to pirates sharing content via torrent, streaming and other services. Obtaining materials via torrents is relatively easy to track, and the entertainment industry took the approach to copyright owners that it used worldwide: local ISPs were placed under pressure to cooperate in the “three-strikes” regime.

At the very beginning, the industry decided to sue one of the Australian ISPs, iiNet, but eventually failed. By the end of 2015 it looked almost certain that a “three-strikes” regime would be introduced. The scheme suggests Internet pirates are being monitored by the rights owners and notified of their behavior through the ISP warning notices. However, the parties failed to agree on the issue of costs.

The recent letter the Australian Media and Communications Authority makes it clear that the project has been shelved. This is not surprising, because the “three-strikes” costs have always been an issue.

eyemanozzy avatarsee what greed breeds !
they've been warned and now they gonna choke !
they will run out of money paying for all this so it's easier to quit for now.
what will they think of next ?....piracy police will fail because of the cost.....
in the meantime , everything goes as normal...

internetdemon666 avatarThe corporate paedophile pigs of the Hollywood Industrial Complex can go eat a giant dickens burger (although they'd probably like that). I really hope it hurts them bad. There's nothing more satisfying than watching a gloated self-privileged fat pig crumble like a helpless lamb, as you stand there laughing as it all comes tearing down.

Embolism avatarThe french have voted to stop the 3 strike BS as well although it has yet to be run in the UK yet and it may succeed there with a change in the law as they are now preparing the new peoples charter and it will have laws enforcing their spying as well as penalties ranging from 2-10 years for piracy and any breaches of the communications act,MS May has already removed the UK from the European court of human rights to enable this which doesn`t bode well for the citizens.
